FAQs About Continuing Education

What are the requirements for Continuing Education?

The Continuing Education (CE) program requires all Members to complete 24 credit hours of real estate related education in each two-year registration cycle.

All Members must submit a “Declaration of Continuing Education” as part of their renewal application.  Proof of completion of the RECO Real Estate Update must be attached.  In addition, members are required to retain proof of registration/enrollment for a period of four years for each seminar attended.

Failure to complete the CE requirements is a breach of the Membership By-law, and is subject to the discipline provisions of the Membership By-law including, termination or suspension of membership in RECO.

To receive credit for a continuing education course/seminar, participants must be in attendance when the course/seminar begins and must be in attendance for the duration of the course/seminar.  There are no partial credits.  Therefore, if you arrive late or leave early, we will be unable to issue a course/seminar credit.

All Members must complete the following:

RECO Real Estate Update
This course must be taken during each 2-year registration cycle and is worth 6 credit hours.

Self-selected seminars
The balance of the credit hours are to be self-selected education seminars completed within the 2-year registration cycle.

How many credits do I have so far?

You can check your course history online at www.orea.com and filling in your student ID and password under My Portfolio.

How many credit hours will I be able to carry forward to the next renewal cycle?

You are allowed to carry forward a maximum of 8 credit hours.

Where do I park when attending seminars at the Board office?

Please do not park in the Board office parking lot.  Our parking spaces are limited and are needed for Members who visit the Board office throughout the day, Members attending Committee meetings, as well as any courier service.

Parking is available on Church Street in the municipal lots and at the Oakville Public Library.

How do I register for the RECO Real Estate Update course?

Registration forms can be obtained on-line at www.orea.com or at the Board office.  You must register for the course through OREA by fax, mail, on-line, in person or by telephone at 1-888-333-5535

Do I have to complete an evaluation sheet after I attend a seminar?

Yes.  RECO requires the education provider (the Board) to be prepared to produce a course evaluation from each participant and must include the participant’s name.

How will I know which courses at community colleges and elsewhere are eligible for CE credits?

As long at the course falls within an approved course/subject area and meets the requirements set out in RECO’s Continuing Education Policies (www.reco.on.ca), it will be eligible for credit.  Check with the education provider for clarification.
